A Campaign We Can Be Proud Of

With an announced opponent against me to serve as Colorado’s Attorney General, it’s timely to outline what type of campaign I will run—and what I invite my opponent to join me in doing to ensure that we have a fair and truthful campaign worthy of Colorado voters.

As Attorney General, I repeatedly expressed concerns that our democratic institutions are under attack. Not only in shocking events such as the January 6, 2021 insurrection and attempts to overturn the recent Presidential election, but also in our day-to-day discourse when public officials demonize each other. As I have explained, elected officials can disagree, but we should never unfairly target or smear others’ motives or humanity.

Campaigns should be about ideas, policies, and experience. Coloradans are sick and tired of campaigns marked by endless mud-slinging, baseless attacks, and outright lies. I’m sick of them, too. Unfortunately, in my opponent’s campaign announcement, he took the opportunity to distort my record as your Attorney General.

To uphold our democracy and honor Colorado’s respect for civil dialogue, I invite my opponent to join me in focusing on ideas and policies, not personal attacks. We’ll have plenty to disagree on and debate, and it is important we stick to the facts, watch our rhetoric, and be truthful about each other’s record.

It is also critical that candidates work to engage with all Coloradans. That’s why, as Attorney General (and as a candidate for the office), I have visited all 64 counties in Colorado. I challenge my opponent to do the same, allowing all 64 Colorado counties the opportunity to engage with those who seek to serve as Attorney General before Election Day. All Colorado voters deserve to be heard in this election, not just those in populated areas and Front Range communities.

Colorado voters deserve engagement and honesty from their candidates. I look forward to my opponent joining me in setting this tone. That’s what Coloradans expect and deserve. And that’s what we will work hard to provide in our campaign.
